Welcome to the vibrant world of street food in Astoria, where El Tri Mexican Food Truck stands out as a culinary gem. Nestled at 28-01 Steinway St, Astoria, NY 11103, this food truck has quickly garnered a reputation for serving some of the most delicious and authentic Mexican fare you'll find in the city.

El Tri specializes in tacos, offering a variety of options from traditional birria to chicken and chorizo. Judging by customer reviews, it’s evident that the flavors here explode with freshness. One customer, Chris, raves about the birria tacos, which are generously filled with well-seasoned beef, melty cheese, and plenty of savory birria sauce, making each bite an unforgettable experience. The double tortilla method is a fan favorite, ensuring that your tacos are not just flavorful but also satisfyingly substantial.

  • Affordability: Everything on the menu is priced reasonably, hovering around $13, with shrimp meals slightly higher at $14. A perfect choice for those seeking delicious eats on a budget.
  • Quick Service: While some customers comment on the wait, the general consensus suggests that El Tri moves quick enough to satisfy those on-the-go or in between appointments.
  • Friendly Staff: The operator is noted for their friendliness, creating a welcoming atmosphere for patrons. It’s not just about the food; it’s about the experience!
  • Consistent Location: Unlike some roaming food trucks, El Tri can be found consistently in its spot, ensuring that taco lovers know exactly where to head for their fix.

Aside from the irresistible tacos, diners also highlight the excellent homemade hot sauce, which adds a fiery kick that is not to be missed. Patrons often leave with lingering scents of grilled onions and peppers – a delicious reminder of the good meal they just enjoyed.

While the neighborhood may not offer the cleanest or most scenic backdrop, the talented and passionate team behind El Tri makes every bite worth it. It's a reminder that the heart of great food often beats in unassuming places. So, whether you're in Astoria or just passing through, make sure to stop by El Tri Mexican Food Truck. The authentic flavors and outstanding value ensure your taste buds will thank you!

I usually pass by this truck every time I have a dermatology appointment, but one day I decided to give it a try. It was a Tuesday and Election Day. First of all, everything here is $13, except for shrimp meals, which are around $14. If you're paying with Apple Pay or another app, there's an additional dollar fee, so cash is better. There's another food truck between Sumpter Pl and Broadway, outside Woodhull Hospital and near Starbucks and Chipotle. The prices are slightly different, with most menu items ranging from $11 to $12, so I assume each operator adjusts for competition. The demographic at my location is primarily African American, but this part of Bushwick tends to be more diverse, with many families, children, and a notable Hispanic presence. For what you're getting, it's really good. My birria tacos were loaded with flavor from the well-seasoned beef, which has a great burst of juicy meat and cheese that makes the soft taco even more tender and chewy. The vegetables and the mozzarella added moisture to the taco, and the birria sauce was savory and plentiful--I had extra and couldn't resist drinking it like soup. You'll definitely need a drink to refresh your palate afterward. The smell of onions and peppers will linger on your hands, face, breath, and clothes. No doubt they are using fresh ingredients, but beware, you will need a peppermint. The truck is parked near the Myrtle Ave. Checkers, Dunkin' Donuts, and Popeyes, making it easy for Brooklynites to spot or for people who know the area to stumble upon. However, because it's on Myrtle Ave., locals know this isn't the most hygienic or scenic spot, even by Brooklyn standards. Myrtle Ave. is Brooklyn's very own 125th St., if that makes sense. The loud noises from traffic, blaring speakers, or a homeless person claiming this block as theirs, unfortunately, take away from the pleasant vibe of a humble taco stand. The operator of the truck was so nice and friendly. I would definitely recommend people try this truck, but honestly, it might be too good for this rough area.

This is such a great taco truck to have nearby. I like that they're always in the same spot same times, unlike some of the other food trucks. I usually get tacos or burrito and switch it up among beef, chicken, chorizo, or al pastor. A huge bonus for me is their fries. They give a solid amount and is my favorite cut of french fries - similar to Wendy's.
